ALOHA! First of all, let me remind you that our St. Timothy’s campus is closed through Saturday for the sealing and re-striping of our parking lot, which was resurfaced a year ago. We will be open for worship on Sunday. This assumes there is no rain that would cause delays. With this work, our parking lot should be a good shape for many years to come. LAST SUNDAY: We explored Psalm 85 and Luke 11:1-13. Those of us of a certain age remember how maddening it could be years ago to try to “tune in” to the station you wanted to watch with a set of rabbit ears on your TV. The same thing can happen with God—sometimes we just can’t seem to tune in to God’s signal, God’s message for us, God’s will for our lives. The psalmist calls us to wait on God, to listen for God, and Jesus calls us to be persistent in prayer while we wait. Have you been more persistent in your prayers this week? THIS SUNDAY: We’ll dive into Hosea 11:1-11 and Luke 12:13-21. God’s heart is broken by the behavior of God’s people Israel—and God lets loose a divine rant. But then God reflects on the situation, and acts to restore the relationship—but only after God’s people suffer the consequences of their actions. Jesus reflects this same flow from Rant to Reflect to Restore in the gospels in order to Resolve broken relationships. When we find our hearts are broken, might we follow the same flow…? Let’s think about what that means this Sunday. This Sunday we’ll also continue our series of “Ministry Minutes” during the announcements time, to bring you up to date about the various ministries happening at St. Timothy’s. Last Sunday we heard from Brandon Casey about the STEAM ministry, and this week we’ll hear from Lauralee Kawamata about our Outreach ministry. Please join us on Sunday morning at 9 in the Chapel, or worship with us on Facebook Live. BISHOP SEARCH: Last Saturday, St. Timothy’s hosted one of a series of “Heart- to-Heart” gatherings for people to share their opinions with the Search Committee as they seek the new bishop of the Diocese of Hawai‘i. This coming Saturday, another of these listening sessions will be held at the Parish of St. Clement in Makiki and online via Zoom. Please see the link below for more information about this and to get the latest about the Bishop Transition. Then last Sunday after worship, a group of members gathered to answer questions the Search Committee provided to help guide them as they continue to do the challenging work of creating a profile and launching the search. Thanks to all who participated in these gatherings. Please keep the Search Committee and Standing Committee of the Diocese in your prayers! ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL: We’re planning a special Adult Class on August 24 in the Vicar’s Office after worship—it’s called “Wai and Our Baptismal Covenant.” We’ll watch a short documentary video about water resources here in our area, followed by a discussion about how our baptismal vows calls for us to help protect and sustain our natural resources. This presentation was created by the Diocese’s creation care team, called Kahuaola. Then starting September 14, I’ll be leading a new six-session Adult Sunday School series called Heart & Soul: The Emotions of Jesus, designed to help you know and experience Jesus in a fresh and authentic way. Be watching for more information about this series. Dear sisters and brothers, you are in my prayers, and I ask for your prayers for St. Timothy’s Church, for our dedicated staff and devoted lay leaders and ministers, and for your vicar. May God bless you and your loved ones always.
Aloha Ke Akua! Fr. Pete+
