ALOHA kākou! The Rt. Rev. Robert Fitzpatrick has served as bishop of this Diocese for 20 years, and now he is retiring “due to advanced age.” Bishop Bob will be making his final official visitation to St. Tim’s this Sunday, May 3, celebrating and preaching. Please join us Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Chapel, or on Facebook Live! After the service, we’ll have a fellowship gathering in Sumida Hall with a special cake in honor of his retirement. If you can, please bring something delicious to share! We wish Bishop Bob and Bea all the best as they embark on a new chapter in life. LAST SUNDAY, we explored the “job description” of the Church in Acts 2:42-47. We got a glimpse of the very first Christian community as it began to take shape after Pentecost. What did these early Christians devote themselves to? To learning, fellowship, prayer, generosity, and joy! Their life together drew people to the church, because they could see “something was happening there!” What does that tell us about who we at St. Timothy’s are called to be today? I hope you’ve pondered that during this past week. LAST SATURDAY, St. Timothy’s hosted the Leeward O‘ahu Meet and Greet for the 3 candidates for bishop to share their thoughts, hopes, dreams, and experience. A good number of clergy and lay persons from the Leeward churches attended. Afterwards we hosted a delicious lunch reception, and had more opportunities to speak with the candidates and each other. We are very grateful for the members of St. Tim’s who helped plan, set up, serve, and clean up! If you have thoughts and opinions about our next bishop, I encourage you to reach out to our Convention Delegates and Alternates, or to me. We pray for a discerning Spirit as we meet in Convention on May 16 so we can move forward together in our diocese under the leadership of a new bishop. RETURNING MAY 17: “CONFIRMING FAITH” ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS! Our special Sunday morning series continues in two weeks for anyone interested in understanding more about the Christian faith, and especially those who wish to be confirmed or received in The Episcopal Church. Our next gathering will be Sunday, May 17 (after Bishop Bob is here and we celebrate Mother’s Day). Hope you can join us! Beloved brothers and sisters, I hold you in my prayers in this most glorious season of Eastertide. I ask your faithful prayers for St. Timothy’s Church, for those who lead and serve, for every member of our ‘ohana, and for your vicar. May the blessing of Almighty God be upon you and remain with you always.
Aloha Ke Akua! Rev. Pete+
