When Grace Finally Breaks Through…

ALOHA! As August continues and we settle back into school and work routines, we continue our Summer Sermon Road Trip: Following God in Real Life. This month we’re moving through some of the most powerful stories in Scripture: Jacob wrestling through the night, Joseph facing the brothers who betrayed him, and soon Moses being drawn into God’s work of liberation.

THIS SUNDAY, we continue Joseph’s story in Genesis 45:1–15 with the sermon “When Grace Finally Breaks Through.” Last week, we met Joseph in the pit, wounded by the very people who should have cared for him. This week, years have passed. Joseph’s brothers stand before him in Egypt, not realizing who he is, and Joseph must decide what to do with the pain of the past. It’s a deeply emotional story of tears, truth, forgiveness, and grace. And it reminds us that forgiveness is not denial, and reconciliation is rarely simple. But sometimes, over time, God helps us see our story differently. Sometimes grace finally breaks through. LAST SUNDAY in Genesis 37:1–4, 12–28, we saw that Joseph’s story began not with triumph, but with family conflict, jealousy, betrayal, and a pit. We considered the wounds people sometimes carry from those who should have loved them better… and the hope that even in painful places, God will not let go of us. I hope you’ve kept that in mind this past week, whatever came your way.
