Where is the Light leading us?

ALOHA! And a blessed Epiphany to you! The day of Epiphany is January 6, and we are celebrating it this Sunday. Epiphany is a season of light. The word epiphany means “revealing” or “showing forth,” and on this day we celebrate God made visible—not only to a chosen few, but to the whole world. In the story of the Magi, strangers from distant lands follow a shining light across the darkness, trusting that it will lead them somewhere true. And it does. It leads them to a child, to humility, to wonder, and to joy. Epiphany reminds us that God is not hidden away in the sacred or the familiar alone. God shows up on the margins, in unexpected people, through foreign wisdom, and by paths we would not have chosen for ourselves.
The light of Christ is given not to be admired from a distance, but to be followed. And that matters for us today. We live in a time when the world can feel dim — fractured by fear, division, and uncertainty. Epiphany insists that light still shines, and that it shines for everyone. It calls us to notice where God is being revealed now: in acts of compassion, in courageous truth-telling, in quiet faithfulness, in love that crosses boundaries. This season of Epiphany invites us to ask: Where is the Light leading me? And then, like the Magi, to rise, set out, and follow. Join me in that quest!
THIS SUNDAY we have a wonderful Christmastide treat to celebrate Epiphany: Our keiki, directed by our amazing Sunday school teachers, present this year’s Epiphany Family Pageant during our worship service! They will share the Christmas story with us, and we’ll all sing some beloved carols. Please join us this Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Chapel, or on Facebook Live.
NEXT SUNDAY, January 11, the Rev. Carol Arney will be with us to celebrate and preach. Please welcome Rev. Carol back to St. Tim’s! Dan and I are taking a quick trip to Denver to visit with our family there.
Dear sisters and brothers, you are in my prayers, and I ask for your continuing prayers for St. Timothy’s Church, for our dedicated staff and devoted lay leaders and ministers, for your fellow members, and for your vicar. May God bless you and your loved ones always.

Aloha Ke Akua!
