Baptism in the Episcopal Church
In the waters of baptism, we are lovingly adopted by God into God’s family, which we call the Church, and given God’s own life to share and reminded that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ. Holy Baptism, which can be performed through pouring of water or immersion in it, marks a formal entrance to the congregation and wider Church; the candidates for the sacrament make a series of vows, including an affirmation of the Baptismal Covenant, and are baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are marked as Christ’s own for ever, having “clothed [themselves] with Christ” (Galatians 3:27). All people of any age are welcome to baptized; we believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, as the “bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 298). Continuing your spiritual journey in the Episcopal Church
Continuing the journey of faith as part of a supportive community is essential. Here is the difference between the three: Confirmation is laying on of hands by an Episcopal bishop in order to confirm, as an adult, the promises others made for you at your baptism, or to confirm your desire to be a member of The Episcopal Church. Reception occurs if you have previously been confirmed in the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, or ELCA Lutheran churches, and now wish to become a member of The Episcopal Church. Reaffirmation occurs if you were previously confirmed as an Episcopalian, but now would like to reaffirm those vows. If you have more questions about any of the above, please contact the Church office 808-488-5747 |
Children’s Sunday School is held in Sumida Hall, directly across the courtyard from the church. Preschool and elementary-age children are invited to participate. The children open class with a prayer and read stories from the children’s Bible. They learn about the life and ministry of Jesus and lessons from the Old and New Testament. To help the children connect with the Bible stories, lessons are supplemented with fun, kid-friendly activity sheets and a take-home Family Page from the Spark Activate Faith curriculum. Children return to the chapel for Holy Communion. Our teacher leaders are Safe Church trained. We welcome and encourage anyone interested in working with young children and assisting with our Sunday School ministry to contact the church office.
Adult Formation classes: The Order of the Daughters of the King offers a book or subject study once a month after the Sunday morning service that is open to everyone. Other study groups or classes will be announced.
