St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church has an active cadre of Lectors (L) and Licensed Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) who serve when our community gathers to worship.
Lectors (or Lay Readers) are called to read Scripture lessons during worship services. No license is required for this lay ministry.
Licensed Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) and Licensed Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs) are lay persons authorized to administer the Consecrated Elements at the Celebrationof the Holy Eucharist. These licensed ministers act under the direction of the priest. The Licensed Eucharistic Visitors are authorized to take the Consecrated Elements in a timely manner following a Celebration of the Holy Eucharist to members of the congregation who, by reason of illness or infirmity, are unable to be present at the Celebration.
We welcome those interested in becoming trained and licensed to serve in these roles. These are the requirements and prerequisites to be licensed in the Diocese of Hawaii:
• The LEM shall be a confirmed communicant in good standing of the Episcopal Church and the congregation, who has been invited to this ministry by the Clergy or other leader exercising oversight of that congregation or community of faith.
• The LEM must possess an ability to administer the elements of bread and wine in the context of public worship.
• The LEM must undergo and complete Safe Church Training in a program approved by the Diocese.
